It’s an incredible city, consisting of 118 islands connected by over 400 bridges and separated by canals where boats and gondolas move. The city’s allure is partly due to its extraordinary art and history in the form of churches, palaces, museums and bridges. Venice is famous all over the world for its unique beauty, its millennial history and its invaluable artistic heritage. Canals, bridges, historic buildings and labyrinthine streets create a magical and romantic atmosphere that is unlike anything in the world. Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace and the Rialto Bridge are just some of the iconic sites that make Venice an unforgettable city.

- 3 days or more: A longer stay will give you time to visit extraordinary museums such as the Galleria dell 'Accademia and Ca' Rezzonico, explore less touristy neighbourhoods such as Dorsoduro and Cannaregio, and savour the true Venetian atmosphere of bacari and cicchetti.

The island of glass: Murano
The most popular excursion from Venice, just over a kilometre from the city, is the island of Murano, home to the world's most famous glassmakers. Everyone who visits the island is keen to learn about these artisans and discover how Murano glass is produced and the manufacturing process behind glasses, lamps, vases and other items made with this famous material.
In addition to touring the factories, you can also visit the Basilica of Santa Maria and San Donato and the Church of Santa Maria dell'Angelo. -
The island of colours: Burano
According to several specialist magazines, this is one of the most colourful places in the world. Every building is a different colour, making a simple walk along the canal a memorable journey.
Craftsmanship also plays an important role, in the form of textiles and lacemaking. You can visit the Church of San Martino whose bell tower leans, like that of Pisa. The island is close to Murano, and the two islands are frequently visited on the same day. -
The ancient jewel of Venice: Torcello Island
Torcello is the third of the islands that can be visited near Venice. It is the least known of the three, but was once the main island in the lagoon. It served as a refuge from the invasion of the Huns, and in fact one of its main attractions is Attila's Throne in the town square, a stone chair which, according to legend, was used by the king of the Huns during his invasion of the islands.
You can also visit the Basilica of Santa Maria dell 'Assunta, the oldest building in the region, or the Church of Santa Fosca. Thanks to its proximity, this history-steeped island can be visited on the same excursion as Murano and Burano. -
Saint Anthony’s beautiful city: Padua
Padua is a small and very beautiful city to the west of Venice. It is known as the city of Saint Anthony, whose remains rest in the Basilica of Sant'Antonio da Padova. But even more impressive is the elliptical square of Prato della Valle, the largest in Italy at 90,000 square metres, the centre of which is an island surrounded by a canal.
Other places of interest are the university, the Scrovegni Chapel, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta. Less than an hour from Venice, this lovely city is a must-see. -
The home of Romeo and Juliet: Verona
Considered one of the most romantic cities in the world, Verona boasts one of Italy’s most important Roman amphitheatres, the unmissable Piazza delle Erbe, the Torre dei Lamberti and the Cathedral. Of course, you can't leave without seeing Juliet's famous balcony, the setting for the most famous scene in Shakespeare's tragedy. -
The other canal city: Treviso
Treviso also features numerous canals and, although not a real floating city, has a charm similar to that of Venice.
The city is full of beautiful palaces, churches and monuments, including Piazza dei Signori, Palazzo dei Trecento, Via Calmaggiore, the Cathedral and the Dante bridge. -
Quiet little Venice: Chioggia
Chioggia lies to the south of Venice and surprises visitors with its similarity to Venice. If you find Venice’s hustle and bustle too much, in Chioggia you can enjoy canals and bridges with very few tourists.
The city has no major monuments, but its brightly coloured houses and canals make for a pleasant stroll -
A beautiful medieval town: Ferrara
If you’re interested in the Italian Renaissance and medieval cities, you’ll love Ferrara. This small Italian city is rich in history, and has one of the highest concentrations of Renaissance features.
Most of the city's monuments are concentrated around Piazza Trento. The Duomo di San Giorgio, the Palazzo della Ragione, the Loggia dei Merciai, Leon Battista Alberti’s campanile, Piazza del Municipio and the Torre dei Rebelli are its main attractions. -
A hidden gem: Vicenza
Vicenza often goes unnoticed, due to its proximity to other popular tourist cities such as Venice and Milan. However, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful cities in northern Italy.
The city was designed by the renowned architect Andrea Palladio, who had a considerable influence on its appearance. Most of the monuments are his work or directly influenced by him. The main sights are Piazza dei Signori, the Basilica Palladiana, the Loggia del Capitaniato and Palazzo del Monte di Pietà. -
A city with Venetian charm: Udine
Less than two hours from Venice, Udine is an underrated city that conceals many architectural treasures.
Piazza della Libertà is its nerve centre, but you don’t forget to visit the imposing cathedral and Palazzo Patriarcale. -
Cruise on the Brenta
Venice is connected to the nearby city of Padua by a section of the river Brenta that in centuries past was traveled by burchielli, traditional wooden boats with elegant cabins and 3 or 4 balconies.
Today, you can sail the original route of the 18th-century Venetian burchielli on a fabulous scenic cruise that takes in over 50 Venetian villas on the banks of the river, 5 locks and 9 swing bridges.
What’s more, along the route there are three stops to visit the interiors of three magnificent villas: Villa Pisani, Villa Widmann and Villa Foscariche. The cruise lasts approximately 12 hours and departs from Venice. -
Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park
Trails, woods and via ferratas on the shores of Lake Mis, surrounded by stunning and unspoilt mountain scenery. Walk, cycle or even ride a horse among spectacular rock formations and ancient forests.
The park offers several themed itineraries to explore certain aspects (history, geomorphology etc), as well as nature trails designed to help hikers learn about the region’s flora and fauna.
